TJ Maxx brings back mentorship program for second year

TJ Maxx is bringing its women's mentorship program back for a second year, this time offering activations in New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Debra Messing - T.J. Maxx

The Maxx You Project will feature three one-day networking workshops designed to inspire women to embrace their individuality. The workshops include intimate talks from keynote speakers including actress Debra Messing, athlete and author Laila Ali, and blogger/influencer Mattie James. Last year, attendees were given gift cards to TJ Maxx as well as gift bags with store product.

This year's workshops are centered around research that TJ Maxx commissioned from Berkeley Psychology professor Dr. Serena Chen. Chen found that "many women celebrate individuality in others – but not in themselves," going on to explain that "When women are true to themselves, they report stronger, more satisfying relationships. They were happier (96%), more successful (87%) and less stressed (89%) when they embraced who they are as individuals."

Explaining this year's theme in a release, Jillian Rugani, manager of marketing at T.J.Maxx, said, "T.J.Maxx believes in the power of individuality. No two T.J.Maxx stores are the same, just like no two women are the same."

Actress Debra Messing added, "From pursuing my career to starting a family, I've looked to [...] inspiring women as part of my own community. They didn't get to where they are alone, and neither have I. I want to pass it on."

This is the second year for the Maxx You Project. Last year, entrepreneur Barbara Corcoran joined Laila Ali as a keynote speaker at the event in New York.

The Maxx You Project aims to create community through a Facebook group that serves as a networking destination for participants. The first event this year takes place in LA on Saturday July 28 with Laila Ali. The second takes place in Atlanta in August, followed by the final event in New York in September.
