The Buckle sales fall 6.5% in April

Kearney, Nebraska-based apparel retailer The Buckle, Inc. announced its sales results for April 2018 on Thursday, reporting a 6.5 percent decrease in net sales.

For the 4-week fiscal month ended May 5, 2018, net sales fell to $58.6 million, compared to net sales of $62.6 million for the prior year period. 
 
Year-to-date net sales decreased 3.5 percent to $204.9 million from net sales of $212.3 million for the prior year 13-week fiscal period ended April 29, 2017. 

Comparable store net sales decreased 3.4 percent for the 4-week period, while they were equally down by 3.1 percent year-to-date.
 
April’s falling sales follow last month’s trend where net sales were equally down 5.2 percent. After a slight rise in comps (0.2 percent) in January of this year, the company’s comparable store sales slumped 5.3 percent in February.

The Buckle sells apparel, accessories, and footwear for young men and women. Denim is a large portion of its business. 
 
The Company is expected to announce first quarter earnings the morning of May 25.
 
Known for its wide denim offering, Buckle currently operates 456 locations in 43 US states, down from 462 stores in 44 states in May of last year.
