For the five weeks ended April 7, 2018 net sales dropped from the $86.8 million reported in the same period in the previous year to $82.3 million.

Net sales for the nine-week period ended April 7, 2018 fell 2.2% to $146.3 million, compared to $149.6 million in the prior year period, while comparable store sales slipped 3%.

Comparable store sales were compared to the nine and five-week periods ended April 8, 2017 due to fiscal 2017’s 53rd week.

March’s falling comps follow last month’s trend as, after a slight rise in comps (0.2%) in January of this year, the company’s comparable store sales slumped 5.3% in February.

In March, Buckle reported decreases of 6.3% and 7.2% in net sales and comparable store sales, respectively, for fiscal 2017, while online sales were reported to have fallen 1.6%. Full-year net income was $89.7 million, compared to $98.0 million in fiscal 2016.

Known for its wide denim offer, Buckle currently operates 456 locations in 43 US states, down from 463 stores in 44 states in April of last year.
