The Fragrance Creators Association lobbies for scent manufacturing to go on during Covid-19 pandemic

The Fragrance Creators Association is asking U.S. federal officials to exempt fragrance manufacturing facilities from any mandated closures or restrictions enacted as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

In a letter, the Arlington, Virginia-based organization addressed officials, including members of the Congressional Fragrance Caucus, asking for businesses in the fragrance manufacturing supply chain to be exempted from mandated closures to fight the virus's spread. Such preventative policies have already been enforced in states including Maine, Ohio, California, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Washington, West Virginia, amongst others.

Currently, the fragrance supply chain is included in the federal government’s “essential business” designation.

In support of the letter's request, the organization emphasized fragrance's importance in cleaning and sanitizing products used by individuals, hospitals food processing plants and more. 

"The association is focused on driving awareness that fragrance is a critical component of cleaning and sanitizing formulations," said Farah Ahmed, the organization's president and CEO. "We stand together with federal, state, and local governments in the desire to meet this challenge, and are committed to ensuring that Americans continue to have access to essential health products that protect against the spread of Covid-19."

According to the organization, the fragrance industry contributes $22.4 billion to the U.S. economy.

Fragrance Creators Association is the principal trade association representing the fragrance industry. The organization represents companies that create and manufacture fragrances for home care, personal care, home design, fine fragrance, and industrial or institutional products, as well as companies that market finished products containing fragrance and companies that supply raw materials used in perfumery and fragrance mixtures.
