Trunk Club to close Chicago fulfillment center, integrate with Nordstrom

Nordstrom and Trunk Club announced on Tuesday the closure of Trunk Club’s fulfillment center on Goose Island in Chicago.

 
Trunk Club will transition its Goose Island facility to its close by August 2017, and the company will integrate its operations into the Nordstrom network of fulfillment and distribution centers as early as the end of 2016. The closure is expected to impact about 250 full- and part-time employees, which Nordstrom will help find roles at the Trunk Club Chicago clubhouse or the 14 nearby Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores if they are interested in staying with the company.
 
The specialty retailer plans to open two Nordstrom Rack stores at Fashion Outlets in Chicago on September 30, 2016 and Algonquin Commons on October 27, 2016, as well as a Last Chance clearance store in Yorktown Center on October 20, 2016.

"As Trunk Club has grown significantly over the past several years, we're continuing to find opportunities to support that growth while also giving our customers the best experience possible," said Brian Spaly, chief executive officer of Trunk Club. "While our space at Goose Island has served us well, we realize we're going to outgrow it soon. We decided this was the right time to integrate Trunk Club orders into the Nordstrom fulfillment network, which will allow us to share more of their inventory and better serve our customers with a wider mix of merchandise."
 
Nordstrom acquired Chicago-based Trunk Club in 2014. The personal shopping service operates online and at five clubhouses in Chicago, Dallas, Washington DC, Los Angeles and New York City. Nordstrom has three fulfillment centers in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; San Bernardino, California; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the latter which currently fulfills the orders for Trunk Club for Women.
