Greater Vancouver’s newest shopping centre Tsawwassen Mills officially opened on Wednesday.

A full crowd was in attendance to get a first look at the 1.2 million-square-foot shopping centre as well as Ivanhoé Cambridge executives, Tsawwassen First Nation Chief Bryce Williams and the Honourable John Rustad, British Columbia Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation.

Tsawwassen marks the third ‘Mills’ centre for Ivanhoé Cambridge, following the opening of Vaughan Mills in Toronto and CrossIron Mills in Calgary. It is also the largest shopping centre to be built in Canada since 2009.

The fully-enclosed centre features five distinct shopping neighbourhoods – Fashion, Outdoor Life, Coast Salish, City, and Nature – each featuring its own custom artwork and design elements. The center welcomes 180 retailers, including 18 that are first-to-market such as: Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, DSW–Designer Shoe Warehouse, Pro Hockey Life, Saks Off 5th, The Outlet by Harry Rosen, Michael Kors Outlet, lululemon athletica outlet, Browns Outlet and more.

Additionally, the centre features a 1,100-seat food hall, four traditional sit-down restaurants, a children's play area, a sports dome and six public entrances, each with its own special design features.

According to Ivanhoé Cambridge, more than $600 Million was invested into the mills and has created approximately 3,500 full-time and part-time jobs.

Tsawwassen Mills' ideal location at Highway 17 and 52nd Street is expected to draw shoppers from the Metro Vancouver area, Vancouver Island and the U.S.
