Universal Standard collaborates with Goop, draws criticism from fans

Universal Standard and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop have partnered to launched a size-diverse clothing collection, with sizes ranging from a U.S. 00 to 40 (equivalent to a 4XL).

Universal Standard tweeted that they view the capsule as "as a step into bringing size inclusivity into the mainstream." - Goop x Universal Standard

The collection is a succinct five-piece capsule, consisting of a dress, a jumpsuit, a peacoat and a matching tuxedo jacket-pant set. The Goop x Universal Standard collab is dominated by black, with the exception of an aubergine dress. Prices range from $225 to $395.

"The fashion industry has a long history of ignoring customers who aren’t sample size," Goop wrote in an Instagram post. "But that’s changing-finally. And with this month’s launch of goop x @universalstandard, we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of that change."

Goop has seen its fair share of public controversies regarding its approach to size, financial accessibility and science, including a recent bout of legal troubles in the UK. Unsurprisingly, some fans of Universal Standard were flustered by the collaboration.

"Super disappointed that you would partner with a company known to be anti-science and fat phobic," one user tweeted in reply to Universal Standard's social media announcement of the new collection. "You could do so much better."

Universal Standard replied to one tweet by saying they view the capsule as, "as a step into bringing size inclusivity into the mainstream."

This partnership by the plus-sized label follows other recent collaborative partnerships with J. Crew and actress Danielle Brooks
