New York & Company announced on Friday a new partnership with actress Gabrielle Union. The Being Mary Jane star will be the face of New York & Company’s 7th Avenue Design Studio sub-brand, and she will launch a namesake collection, exclusive to New York & Company, in August.

The award-winning actress began her career on television shows such as Family Matters, Moesha, 7th Heaven, and Sister, Sister before crossing over to the big screen in teen movies She’s All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Bring It On. Union won nominations and awards for her performances in Bad Boys II, Think Like a Man, and Top Five, and she currently produces and stars in BET drama Being Mary Jane as Mary Jane Paul.

Union’s character in the BET show is described as the embodiment of a New York & Company customer—a polished career woman that is always on trend. The specialty retailer admitted that the 7th Avenue Design Studio collection is largely inspired by the Being Mary Jane television show.

"Mary Jane's style reflects power, leadership, and risk taking,” Union explained. “She wears classic styles but with a twist, which is why I think she'd definitely shop at New York & Company."

"I am excited to work with a brand that's known for embracing diversity and that caters specifically to women—especially women who want to look on-point without breaking the bank. I can't wait to show everyone what I've been working on!"

Gabrielle Union joins a number of entertainers that have on going partnerships with New York & Company. The retailer partnered on collections with Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winner Jennifer Hudson, and has an ongoing partnership with actress Eva Mendes.

The Eva Mendes Collection is a bright spot for the company, achieving $50 million in sales in this past fiscal year. The specialty retailer announced in March that the collection will be expanded to 50 shop-in-shops and 19 dedicated boutiques.

In addition, the coming Gabrielle Union namesake collection is in line with New York & Company’s fiscal 2017 plan to drive growth with its celebrity partnerships and sub-brands.
