TORONTO, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Canada's West 49 Inc (WXX.TO), a trendy sporting goods retailer, said on Thursday 14 January that sales for the key holiday season slipped almost 2 percent as brisk December activity was not enough to offset November's unseasonably warm weather.

For the nine weeks that ended on Jan. 2, the company, known for its stylish skateboarding and snowboarding apparel, said sales at stores open for more than a year dropped 1.8 percent.

Total sales fell 0.6 percent to C$51.8 million ($50.2 million).

In December, which includes the Christmas rush, same-store sales rose 3 percent. Net sales climbed 5.7 percent to C$36.8 million. ($1=$1.03 Canadian) (Reporting by Scott Anderson; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
