Designer: Tory BurchInspiration: Meeting at the Brooklyn Museum, in the Great Hall, for a radiant show inspired by the late Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. The designer never quite follows his inspirations to the letter and likes to give several definitions of elegance.Collection: Multiple proposals for dresses, romantic and light, in shades of white, composed of small embroided flowers, other larger models with puffed sleeves which insists on referencing the 80’s. More rare of Tory, the short dresses appear with pleats and bustier effects.A more ‘’young woman’’ spirit emerges with the large trousers worn with long cardigans. To note: Natalia Vodianova, who hasn’t walked at the New York fashion week for a very long time, opens the show and presents two outfits. Interviews :Tory Burch : Diana Spencer represents a powerful woman that was full of passion. She was fearless and someone that we could all look up to. The picture I love most of her are before she was even a princess, so it was really about her being a humanitarian, her being fearless, she was an incredible mum so we wanted to reference it in a small way and then do our own take on the 80s and infuse a bit of english garden at the same time. I think its feminity and mixing that with a bit of tomboy for sure but a play on proportion which was really interesting. I love the harem pants, it’s kind of a new pyjama, a new way to wear pyjamas. Some of the dresses were full but they were youthful and then we have some of the short dresses which I haven’t done like that. Karolina Kurkova : I thought Tory Burch’s show this morning was beautiful and fresh. It was feminine and soft and girly yet it had a touch of the tailoring and this kind of Renaissance you know volume shirts and the bows so I really liked it. I mean she always does a really good job about kind of mixing that downtown uptown girl you know a girl that’s a woman that’s on the go but that’s going maybe to pick up the kids at school, drop them off in the morning but she’s going to the office to work. She wants to be kind of cool and edgy but yet feminine and soft but still also comfortable but ahead of her style.
