Carolina Herrera: Women's Autumn/Winter 2020/21 show in New York (with interview)

Creative director: wes gordoninspiration: the shed in new york, a new midtown museum in the hudson yards area, in a high tech building built with an adjustable bay window shell. between the metal beams and white carpet, the brightly coloured models sparkle even more. the designer evokes one grand gesture, like that of turning a new page towards refined exuberance. collection: colours dominate and are always worked; aquamarine blue, bright yellow, garden green.. so many names to describe this new chic wardrobe, where this season it’s about emphasising shoulders and playing with sleeves, which are rounded and voluminous. layering of materials, creating a mille-feuille of textures for the dresses which are also available in a very short version. the monastic aspect is reinforced by slender silhouettes with long capes, in monochrome tones and belted by rope at the waist. to note: the black trouser suits, several very sophisticated proposals. interview with wes gordon:we show today at the shed, which is the new performing arts centre in new york and as a new yorker i am so proud to be one of the first big brands to show our collection here which is incredible. as you know i love colour and carolina herrera is all about colour and every one of the looks was so colourful that i thought it would be beautiful to just see these colours, these brushstrokes of colours walking across a big white empty space and crisscrossing each other.my vision for this season was this idea of one grand gesture and figuring out, when i’m looking at each garment or designing or sketching, what is it about that piece that makes it special, is it the shape of the sleeve, is it the embroidery, is it the colour, and then taking away everything else and letting that shine.we had some lines, we had some very linear clean shapes and then we had these little explosions, these little bursts of fabric so it was a growth, a steady build, a crescendo from the clean lines to the volume. i took a lot of our short dresses this season and put them with trousers which i thought was a really modern thing to do for fall, is to take that mini dress and put it with a matching trouser and then also we did some tailoring this season that i really love. music from the show (to use only in context of the show, under cover of the right to information)
